Serial Killer Theory Confirmed

Friday, June 25th, 2010

The theory of a serial killer stalking Kurla has now been confirmed. The first and second rape and murder of minor girls in Nehru Nagar was carried out by the same person, as the DNA from the vaginal swabs have matched.

On February 9, a five-year-old girl’s body was found stuffed in a gunny bag at a staircase in a Nehru Nagar building. A month later, on March 7, a riot-like situation had erupted in Kurla (east) after a nine-year-old girl Anjali Jaiswal was found raped and murdered on the terrace of the police quarters opposite the Nehru Nagar police station – the DNA shows both murders have been carried out by the same person.

The police is now waiting for the reports from the vaginal swabs of nine-year-old girl Nusrat Khursheed Alam Sheikh. Sheikh had been missing since June 6 was recovered dead in a decomposed condition at an abandoned room at Vatsalatai Naik Nagar on June 19. “We are now awaiting reports of the third rape and murder to confirm the role of the same person,” added the officer. They already arrested Mohammad Ajmeri, who is known for his violent behaviour, for allegedly raping and murdering one of the girls. The medical reports however, and a DNA test of Ajmeri proved negative.

The police has stated that citizens are coming forward to help them and not creating any law and order problems in Kurla. “Citizens are cooperating with us. This is a time when the entire force is working to crack the case,” added the officer.

So far, since the first rape and murder in February, police has tested the DNA samples of over 300 people – with no luck. They believe the man responsible for these crimes is a local and was aware that over 70% houses at Vatsala Tai Nagar and the nearby slum remain locked for three months during summer. That helped him hide and leave the place after committing the offenses.

In further investigation they discovered that the killer left a two-rupee coin next to each of the three girls’ bodies. “We are investigating this angle. It might yield a glimpse into his mind,” officials said. Bar owners are asked to provide information on any suspicious visitors. A policeman added that people often reveal many things under the influence of alcohol and information overheard in bars by informers or cops has in the past helped nab many criminals. The officer said that apart from bars and sensitive locations, a team of police officials are keeping a continuous vigil at schools in the locality.

Kamlesh Sharma, a new suspect, arrested on Wednesday by the Vinoba Bhave Nagar police in Kurla for trying to entice a minor girl to accompany him, was remanded in police custody till June 29 by the Kurla Metropolitan Magistrate. Officers said they need his custody to verify if he could be the rapist-killer. “Sharma, 41 and bearded, does not match the description of the wanted rapist, supposed to be in his twenties and clean-shaven. However, we are taking no chances and have sought police custody so we can have DNA tests done and keep Sharma available for an identification parade before the girl who had escaped the rapist,” said an officer with the VB Nagar police. So far, there are no other leads in the case.

Belgium Teacher a Serial Killer?

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Ronald Janssen, a 38-year-old technical drawing teacher, believed to be Belgium’s latest serial killer, first confessed to the New Year’s Day murder of a young couple in his small home town of Halen. This latest confession has led both the media and the police to speculate that he might have been involved in the murders of 3 other young women, dating back to 1991, and possibly 15 other raped and murdered young women.

Ronald Janssen belgium teacher serial killerRonald Janssen, described as quiet and withdrawn family type, father of 2 girls, confessed murdering a soon-to-be married young couple – 18 year old Shana Appeltans, and 22 year old Kevin Paulus. They had both been shot dead, and their car had been torched. Annick Van Uytsel, 18, went missing after a party in 2007. Janssen had attended the same party, and Annick’s bicycle was found close to an old apartment of Janssen’s. She was eventually found dead. Her body was later found dumped in a local canal, wrapped in a plastic sheet and weighted down with stones. She had been beaten to death.
Even though police suspected Janssen might be involved in the murder, they never had enough evidence to convince him, so it was not until he confessed that they could arrest him.

“Investigators fear particularly that it will not stop and that this is rather the beginning of a long list of Janssen’s crimes,” the De Standaard newspaper reported. Prosecutors across Belgium have now reopened the files for two unsolved abduction murders, of Ingrid Caeckaert, 27 stabbed in 1991 and Carola Titze, 16, murdered in 1996. Detectives have also reopened an investigation into the 2006 disappearance, and suspected murder, of Tamara Morris, 27. Media reports have linked him to up to 15 killings, usually the rape and murder of young women.

His crimes have already been compared to the notorious Marc Dutroux case, the serial killer who traumatized Belgium when he abused and murdered four girls aged between eight to 19 during the 1990s – he murdered 4 of them. Could another serial killer have been hiding behind a quiet teacher Ronald Janssen and how many people he actually killed, until further investigation remains unknown.

Accused Los Angeles Serial Killer

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Los Angeles detectives were going through cold case files, following the arrest of a 72-year-old man suspected of being the city’s worst serial killer, for raping and murdering dozens of women decades ago. Police believe that John Thomas Jr is responsible for as many as 30 murders dating back to the 1970s and 1980s.

John Thomas Jr Los Angeles serial killer and rapistJohn Floyd Thomas Jr., 72, may have begun his killings as far back as 1955 and he could be one of the worst serial killers in United States history, according to Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton.

Thomas was arrested on March 31 when police linked a DNA sample taken from him to the crime scenes of two women murdered four years apart in 1972 and 1976. Evidence linking him to three other murders has also been found. “Thomas, at this time — and we think this is probably going to expand — is also suspected in as many as 25 other murders that occurred in the Southland in the 1970s and 1980s,” Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton said, “We have not yet reached the depth of what he’s done“.

Thomas, who sits in a Los Angeles jail, has been charged with two killings — in 1972 and 1976 — but prosecutors will likely add more cases when he faces arraignment on May 20.

While Thomas was arrested “a number of times between 1955 and 1978″ for sex crimes and burglaries, detectives did not have the technology to identify him as a suspect when the region was terrorized by a series of killings then blamed on the “Westside Rapist,” Bratton said.

As part of an ongoing Los Angeles Police Department program to collect DNA evidence from convicted sex offenders, officers asked Thomas for a DNA swab – and that’s when they first matched his DNA to rape kit evidence collected from first two victims, and investigation went on.

“Because of Thomas’s criminal background, the close proximity of his homes to murder locations, similar victim descriptions [white elderly females] and other evidence that suggests the type of modus operandi used by the suspect, detectives strongly believe Thomas is very likely the suspect in ‘The Westside Rapist’ cases,” a police statement said.

By most available accounts, John Floyd Thomas Jr. spent the last two decades living a relatively quiet life:
“He always had a smile on his face. He was placid, congenial and affable, a pleasant fellow who, if the allegations are true, may in fact be a monster,” said Earl Ofari Hutchinson, an L.A. community activist who once worked with Thomas. “It almost takes your breath away.”

While he served about 12 years in prison between 1955 and the late 1970s for his previous convictions, he has no record since his last arrest in 1978, police said.

Deputy Chief Beck said the growing use of DNA databases and computers to match them to crime evidence will likely lead to more cold case killers being identified.

Police Sergeant A Serial Rapist

Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Police hunt for a serial rapist, devastated to discover he’s one of their own. Illinois Policeman Jeff Pelo, convicted of serial rape. The father of three, was found guilty on 35 counts of rape, kidnap and stalking. He was sentenced to 440 years — one of the longest sentences in Illinois history.

photo of jeff peloHis first victim was 25-year-old Kristi Mills who woke up to see a masked intruder standing in her doorway. “I was in shock,” Mills said. “Absolute shock. I looked at the door and saw the light there, and something just didn’t seem right. And that’s when I saw him. “The next thing I remember is he was on top of me in the bed,” she said.

Her attacker was wearing a ski mask and gloves and he seemed very methodical and calm as he tied her “He actually taped all the way around my head so that I wouldn’t be able to open my mouth at all. Put tape over my eyes.” . There was not a trace of panic in his voice – Mills said that he looked like he knew exactly what he was doing. After sexually assaulting her for 45 minutes he made her take a long bath as he calmly walked about her apartment cleaning up after himself.

Two years later, the rapist found his fourth victim, 28-year-old restaurant manager Sarah Kalmes-Gliege. He made it clear he had been stalking her, and he threatened her loved ones. “The majority of the assault was spent just humiliating and demeaning and terrorizing me. I mean, it wasn’t at all about anything to do with sex. Just devastation is what, how I felt.”

Bloomington, Ill., Police Detective Clay Wheeler had spent two years, from December 2002 to January 2005, pursuing the first serial rapist in his town’s memory : “I’ve seen more brutal things, more violent things, but some of the things that happened and what he would say and tell these girls as he’s assaulting them, and I mean, I get chills and just … it just disgusts me,” he said. When the police turned to the FBI for help, they were told the rapist might be a seemingly model citizen. Still the police didn’t have the prime suspect.

After one of the potential victims called the police, an officer showed up at her front door, just to find a man standing against the house, and in the glare of his flashlight, saw the intruder turn and walk away. He was in shock when he realized he knew the man who turned around. It was one of his own … fellow Bloomington police officer Jeff Pelo, his former supervisor. Pelo was a 17-year veteran of the Bloomington police, a former policeman of the year and married father of three.

Mounting evidence revealed how Pelo may have used his police training and access to commit the crimes and cover his tracks. Detectives found that Pelo’s police computer had been used to run license plate searches on three of the victims. Then, a search of Pelo’s home turned up a jacket and a ski mask made of fibers that matched the kind found on the duct tape used to bind Mills. All three victims recognized his voice and his eyes they say they cannot forget.

Jeff Pelo was found guilty on 35 counts of rape, kidnap and stalking and was sentenced to 440 years of life in prison. Go see a series of videos on ABC news, starting with When A Rapist Wears A Badge.

Serial Killer Timothy Krajcir

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

A serial killer Timothy Krajcir who had confessed to nine cold-case killings, got away with murder for decades, police say. They say he preyed on women he could easily overpower. He always struck at night to avoid detection. When he killed, he never spoke of it to anyone. Police even say they considered a cop might be behind the killings.

timothy krajcir arrestedTimothy Krajcir was born in November, 28th, 1944, and has been in and out of prison since 1963, and will now serve 14 life sentences plus 80 years for murders and other offenses committed across three states, over a thirty year period. He minored in psychology and majored in administrative justice. Police chef Carl Kinnison explained why most people choose that major: “Most of the time, it’s people that are interested in pursuing a law enforcement career, someone who is interested in getting into police work.” He said Krajcir would stalk victims, break into their homes and wait for them. He had no connection to the victims or even the town where police said he committed the killings. He was looking for easy, unsuspecting targets, and all that in order to make sure he wouldn’t get caught.

However, he knew they would get him, sooner or later: “I’ve had conversations with him where he’s acknowledged that as the science grew, he knew that at some point this day was going to arrive,” Carbondale, Illinois, police Lt. Paul Echols told CNN. “He was aware of DNA technology and that he was part of that database — that someday that he would be matched. He knew it was coming.” And that’s exactly what happened when the DNA results came back – they were a perfect match. Krajcer then confessed to committing those crime, putting an end to nine killings that happened during the past thirty years.

For more information, make sure to check out this video from CNN:

A psychological profile from 1983, written by Dr. Paul Gross states that Krajcer didn’t have a good childhood: “His lack of stability was accentuated by a mother who he describes as cold and unaffectionate,
“He somehow tries to justify his behavior on his past childhood experiences and once was told by a therapist that he is action out his anger towards his mother on other women,” wrote Gross. “His rapes have been proceeded by intense fantasies of sexual abuse and rape on women.

This is not a new information, he confessed to the ninth murder back in 2007, but reading about it was interesting enough for me to decide to share it with you guys. I am wondering if a troubled childhood is really what made this man kill and rape over and over again during three long decades before getting caught? Blaming on troubled childhood and parents, especially mothers, sounds more like an excuse to me, but I do believe it has a great influence on one’s behavior. However, it’s what YOU do with YOUR life that really matters…
